ALL THREE VEHICLES WERE TRAVELING EAST ON INTERSTATE 44 IN THE RIGHT LANE. THERE WAS A TRAFFIC CRASH AHEAD THAT HAD THE LEFT LANE BLOCKED. VEHICLE #3 WAS IN FRONT OF VEHICLE #2, AND VEHICLE #1 WAS BEHIND VEHICLE #2. DRIVER #3 BEGAN TO SLOW DOWN FOR THE CONGESTION AHEAD AND VEHICLE #2 WAS FOLLOWING VEHICLE #3 TOO CLOSELY. DRIVER #2 APPLIED HIS BRAKES AND BEGAN TO SLIDE ON THE WET PAVEMENT. THE FRONT OF VEHICLE #2 STRUCK THE REAR OF VEHICLE #3. DRIVER #1 WAS TRAVELING TOO FAST AND FOLLOWING VEHICLE #2 TOO CLOSELY, AND STRUCK THE TOWED UNIT OF VEHICLE #2 WITH THE FRONT OF VEHICLE #1. VEHICLE #1 THEN TRAVELED ACROSS THE LEFT LANE, WHERE THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE STRUCK THE CONCRETE MEDIAN WALL, CAUSING VEHICLE #1 TO OVERTURN ONTO ITS RIGHT SIDE. VEHICLE #1 CAME TO REST PARTIALLY ON THE LEFT SHOULDER AND LEFT LANE OF EASTBOUND INTERSTATE 44 FACING NORTH. VEHICLE #2 TRAVELED PARTIALLY OFF THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE ROADWAY, WHERE THE RIGHT REAR SIDE OF THE TOWED UNIT STRUCK A GUARDRAIL.
Injuries
Browne's injuries were minor. Browne was taken by Meramec Ambulance District to Mercy Hospital Washington.
Vehicle Damage
The police said the damage to the 2003 Peterbuilt Dump Truck driven by Reed was total. It was removed by Towed To/By I44 Towing. The damage to the 2016 Mac driven by Schwengels was moderate. It was removed by Towed To/By Patriots Towing. The damage to the 2005 Ford E450 Motorhome driven by Browne was minor. It was removed by Towed To/By I44 Towing.
How To Get the Highway Patrol Report
Msgt C L Patton of the Missouri State Highway Patrol wrote up the report. The highway patrol assigned report number 210239588 to this crash. The highway patrol charges $6.90 for each certified report (certification required for court). The highway patrol is currently backlogged and they state on their website that you will have to wait 10 days and may have to wait an "extended period of time" beyond that for the report. Further, unless you qualify under the Federal Driver's Privacy Protection Act, the report you get will have important and necessary information such as photographs, social security numbers, driver license numbers, names, addresses and telephone numbers redacted (blacked out).
